TRY AND STOP US!

TASU — Try And Stop Us Theatre Company — was founded in 2013 in Minneapolis by two Southwest High School students, Abby Hilden and Meredith Casey. The two had hoped to produce the play Spring Awakening at school, but administrators were reluctant to endorse it’s depiction of controversial themes.  So Meredith and Abby took matters into their own hands.

TASU was created to allow independent-minded high school students from around the Twin Cities to participate in meaningful shows that may not be performed in their schools. With minimal help from adults, students learn first-hand the immense challenges and rewards of creating theater, collaborating with peers, and running a business.

With help from donations and lots of support, the theater company’s inaugural production, Spring Awakening, was a huge success. In 2014 Southwest seniors Angie Vaaler and Charlotte Anderson take over the reigns as co-directors, with musical direction by fellow SWHS senior Levi Schwartzenberg.

Bully for you. I’m impressed with the quality of theater I have seen at Southwest and I admire your courage and fortitude in taking this project on. I can’t wait to see your production, having raised 4 kids and being a teacher at Lake Country School from where many have gone on to High School at Southwest. Break a leg. Mr. D.
